Xpress Super incorporates direct property

Super Guardian has added additional functionality to its SMSF administration and investment service, Xpress Super, with the inclusion of a direct property option for clients.

According to Xpress Super chief executive Olivia Long, the new investment option was added in recognition of the popularity of direct property as an asset class within the SMSF sector.

“Direct property investment is an option that’s very popular with the self-directed investors, as they understand the nature of direct property ownership. With ongoing equity market uncertainty, trustees are looking for assets that are perceived to offer reliable income and longer-term capital growth,” she said.

Long cited the latest Australian Taxation Office statistics, which showed the proportion of direct property held within an SMSF grew from 10.7 per cent in 2006 to 14.7 per cent in March this year. The data revealed over the same period of time the value of this asset class increased to over $73 billion, representing an increase of 230 per cent.

“As a premium provider to the self-directed investor, Xpress Super will continue to develop a suite of investment products that match the evolving needs of investors. Next on the agenda is gearing in equities within SMSFs,” Long said.

Xpress Super also took the opportunity to announce St George and Macquarie Bank had been added to its commercial property and residential property lending panels.

“We are pleased to partner with investment providers that are experts in their field. We ensure a competitive product offering with a seamless client origination process. We are confident that our selected providers will ensure our clients meet strict compliance regime requirements for investing in SMSFs while making the experience relatively simple for the investor,” Long said.

These latest developments come just over a month after the trustee administration service provided access to the Macquarie separately managed account for its clients.
