Peter Hogan joins SMSF Association

The SMSF Association has announced the appointment of Peter Hogan as its new head of technical.

SMSF Association chief executive Andrea Slattery said it was an extremely important role in the organisation and Hogan had the crucial experience, reputation and industry knowledge needed.

“Peter, currently SMSF Advice national manager at MLC Technical, brings many years of experience in SMSFs to the organisation, having previously worked before MLC at Plaza Financial, Colonial First State Investments, Macquarie Bank and the ATO in key superannuation, investment and taxation roles, and now the association has the opportunity to benefit from this varied and rich skill set built up over many years,” Slattery said.

“The association, as the leader in technical and advisory services in the financial services and superannuation industries, is committed to ensuring its members keep their competitive edge, and having a person of the calibre of Peter in this role is critical to this process.

“The association recognises the search for excellence in the SMSF specialist space is a journey without an end, and as such we must continue to offer our members the best opportunity to achieve at all levels, whether it be regulatory, technical or professional.”

Hogan replaces Graeme Colley, who left the professional body on 7 April.

Colley joined the association in 2012 and was previously national manager, technical at OnePath for over 10 years.

Hogan, who graduated with a bachelor of laws from Sydney University in 1983 and a diploma of financial planning from Deakin University in 2002, said he is excited and honored to be appointed to this position.

“I have a long relationship with the SMSF Association, having served as a director between 2004 and 2013, including the roles of chairman and vice chairman,” he said.

“I understand the important role that the association plays in both the SMSF sector and the broader superannuation industry as an advocate for professionalism and high educational standards, and I look forward to contributing in every way possible in my new role.

“Having spent much of my professional career in superannuation and financial services, I want to use my experience and skills to the benefit of our members and the wider SMSF sector.”

In his role at MLC, which he has held from 2010, Hogan worked tirelessly to improve the calibre of SMSF advice within the firm.

“There are now 96 specialist SMSF advisors in the organisation, putting the MLC at the forefront of SMSF advice in the industry,” he revealed.

“It’s a legacy of which I am proud, and certainly one that will stand MLC in good stead as a provider of SMSF specialist advice and services.”
